Puerto Rico Crowns
Puerto Rico is a not an independent country it is part of the United States. Before the United States Puerto Rico was claimed by the Spanish Crown in 1498 following Colombus' second voyage to the Americas. But, the United States took over after the Spanish- American War. After the war was ceased the Puerto Ricans were granted US citizenship in 1917. In 1952, a constitution was enacted allowing them to have internal self government, but without complete independence. Puerto Rico was ruled from 1493- 1898 by the Spanish colony and then the United States governed from 1898- present day U.S. colony.
Puerto Rico Industry
Puerto Rico has many major industries. Their finest businesses are pharmaceuticals, electronics, apparel, food products, and tourism. The agricultural products are sugarcane, coffee(which is one of the man products), pineapples, plantains, livestock, and chickens. They have some copper and nickel and are potential for on shore and off shore oil which are all considered their natural resources. Puerto Rico's major exports are chemicals, electronics, apparel, canned tuna, beverage concentrates, and medical equipment. Their imports are chemicals, machinery and equipment, clothing, food, fish, and petroleum products. Their currency is also the US dollar because they are part of the United States so all their products made in Puerto Rico are made in the USA.
Puerto Rico Geography
Puerto Rico is located in Central America and the Caribbean. Puerto Rico is a state that is small and is approximately the size of Connecticut. It has a total size of 13, 790 square km. Cerro de Punta is the highest point in Puerto Rico and it is 1,339 m high. The climate is tropical marine and mild. The capital is of Puerto Rico San Juan.
Puerto Rico Nationals
Puerto Rico national facts are captivating in different means. Their most significant national holiday is known as Discovery Day which is November 19th. Discovery Day is celebrated because Puerto Rico was discovered on that day. The El Coquí is the national symbol which is a frog that sings during the night. The Maga is their beautiful, ruby red flower. The Reinita Mora is the national bird. The National Motto is Joannes Est Nomen Elus. Do you know what that means?? It is translated to John is his name. Their nationality is very original.
Puerto Rico People
Puerto Rico is an intersting country that is both Roman Catholic and Protestant. They are Puerto Rican and US citizens. Their population is 3,927,188 with a commonwealth government and no independence and they are part of the United States. The Puerto Ricans had a 90% literacy rate. The largest cities are New San Juan, Baymón, Ponce, Carolina, and Mayagúez. Their most popular tourist attractions are Old San Juan(which is in ruins), El Morro, La Fortaleza, Arecibo Observatory, Mona Island Reserve, and many other sites.
